Los Angeles Rams rookie wide receiver Puka Nacua has quickly become a well-known name in the NFL, even though he has only played in two games. Prior to his game against the Cincinnati Bengals, Nacua was visibly moved during the playing of the national anthem. As the “Monday Night Football” camera focused on him, it was evident that he was overcome with emotion.
Nacua has made the most of his first season in the NFL. In the game against the Bengals, he had already accumulated an impressive 25 catches for 266 yards. His performance has also earned him a place in the NFL record books. Last week, he made a remarkable 15 receptions against the San Francisco 49ers, setting a new record for the most receptions by a rookie in a single game. This broke the previous record jointly held by Roy Helu, Saquon Barkley, and Najee Harris.
What’s more, Nacua is the first rookie to achieve double-digit receptions in each of his first two NFL games. Not only that, but his 25 receptions in his first two games set a new league record for a rookie. The previous record of 19, held by Earl Cooper since 1980, was surpassed by Nacua’s impressive performance.
As the Rams-Bengals game approached halftime, Nacua continued to showcase his talent with three more catches on three targets. It is clear that this rookie receiver is making a significant impact in the NFL.
