Following a tragic mass shooting that claimed the lives of 18 people and left at least 13 wounded, CNN, known for its left-leaning stance, conducted an interview with a local resident who expressed a desire for a firearm in such situations.
The suspected shooter, Robert Card, aged 40, remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous. Local authorities have advised residents to stay indoors, keeping their doors locked, and local schools have been closed.
CNN’s Senior Crime and Justice reporter, Shimon Prokupecz, reported on the incident from Lisbon, Maine, near where the suspect’s abandoned car was discovered.
During a live interview, Prokupecz began by saying, “There is significant concern in this area. Listen to my conversation with one of the residents here as he discussed his apprehensions.”
The resident, identified as Cory, shared his thoughts: “Nerves are on edge right now. I’m keeping a close watch on the woods down there because I know they lead right back here. And I have my daughter inside.”
Prokupecz inquired, “How old is your daughter?”
Cory responded, “She’s 10 years old. And my oldest daughter works at the Walmart DC, and I had to message her to ensure she’s okay. It’s a very unsettling situation.”
Seizing what he believed was an appropriate moment to comment on the presence of armed officers in the area, Prokupecz remarked, “Seeing those officers with long guns walking through—”
Cory quickly interjected, saying, “Actually, that made me feel better. Seeing the police around here makes me feel a million times better. In a situation like this, I wish I had a firearm.”
