Canadian Jewish organizations and critics on social media are strongly criticizing the Canadian Parliament for applauding a man with ties to the Nazis during an event with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to the country.
“The Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) express deep dismay over the standing ovation accorded by Canada’s Parliament to a Ukrainian veteran with a history of serving in a Nazi military unit during World War II, implicated in the horrendous mass murder of Jews and others. An apology and a clear explanation are imperative,” stated the Canadian nonprofit organization dedicated to Holocaust education, the Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center, on the platform X (formerly known as Twitter).
