Following Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson’s announcement of his intention to switch parties from the Democratic to the Republican, numerous Democrats have expressed their disappointment and frustration, viewing it as a betrayal by their once-aligned colleague.
In an op-ed published in the Wall Street Journal on Friday, Johnson elaborated on his decision, stating, “American cities need Republicans — and Republicans need American cities.”
He emphasized the importance of a strong stance on law and order and fiscal conservatism, asserting that these principles are crucial for the future of the nation’s urban centers. Johnson highlighted a perceived inconsistency in the Democratic Party’s commitment to these principles, contrasting it with what he sees as a longstanding and unwavering commitment within the GOP.
